Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
It goes like thisThe fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To her kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch [1]
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even thoughIt all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

[1] I couldn't feel so I learned to touch.

Hallelujah na outra versão (1988) de Leonard

Baby, I've been here before
I know this room,
I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
and I've seen your flagon the marble arch
And love
love is not some kind of a victory march
No, it's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah!

Well, there was a timewhen you let me know
what’s really going on below
but now you never show that to me, do ya?
I remember when I moved into you
and the holy dove… she was moving too [1]
yes… and every single breath we drew was Hallelujah!

Maybe there’s a god above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
is how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
and It's not a complaint that you hear at night [2]
It's not somebody who clams seen the light
No, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah! [3]

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I learned to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand right here before the Lord of the Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

[1] Jeff B.e Leonard cantam “and the holy dove was moving too”. Wainwright canta “and the holy dark was moving too”.
[2] And it's no complaint you hear tonight, it's a cold and it's a lonely Hallelujah
[3] Algumas versões: “No, it's a cold and it’s very lonely Hallelujah!”
